Founded over a 100 years ago in the year 1900 by Dewan Bahadur A M Murugappa Chettiar in Burma (Now Myanmar). The business was moved to India in the 1930s which started from scratch and today Murugappa Group is one of India's most diversified business conglomerates. It started as a money lending business but now it has a total of 28 businesses. The group employs more than 30,000 people and is active in a diverse range of business including abrasives, auto components, bicycles, farm inputs, fertilizers, plantations and bio products among others.
Some if its brands are BSA, Hercules, Ballmaster, Ajax, Parry's, Chola, Gromer and Paramfos. The group has had a series of collaborations and mergers & acquisitions in its long lifespan and today its legacy of entrepreneurship continues to this day.
The philosophy of Murugappa group is expressed in an excerpt from Arthashastra, 'The fundamental principle of economic activity is that no man you transact with will lose, then you shall not.'
