The government of India, has a mission to increase electricity supply with a special focus on renewable energy as a sub-segment of power generation. Considering the changing climatic conditions and environmental pollution caused by harmful carbon emissions, renewable energy companies have finally come to the forefront as a national priority for power production. After the success of solar projects in Gujarat, the newly elected GOI has embarked on a mission to by revising the National Solar Mission from 22 to 100 Gigawatts by 2022. The government plans to achieve this by subsidizing solar roof solutions for tier 2 & tier 3 cities. This is aimed towards decentralization of distribution.
To make the transition from conventional energy sources to renewable energy, the government is bundling solar power with cheaper conventional power to reduce the tariff impact on the electricity distribution companies. Wind energy has developed much before solar and is currently the 4th largest in the world. It being the largest renewable energy source continues to get prominence and is expected to do well in the future.
Invest in well managed companies that were resilient in the past when this sector was not a national priority. Now they stand to benefit from favourable government policies and tax incentives.
