According to Census 2011, around 30% of India's population lives in urban areas. The trend is ongoing as people look to migrate from rural to urban areas in search of better opportunities. The ambitious Smart Cities Programme is the GOI's mission to develop essential infrastructure in more than 100 smaller cities across the country which will function as satellite towns of the larger cities.
This mission is a long-term commitment and priority for the government. Large sums of money will be spent to complete the smart cities mission and well managed companies that have a proven track record of quality, scale and performance are expected to win tenders and benefit in the future.
